Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community based organization committed to helping children through nurturing, caring, and support. We strive to give both our volunteers and children the knowledge and tools to be successful. Our focus is finding and supporting caring members of the community to help children in the St. Catharines, Thorold & District through mentoring, friendship, counselling and support services. We are a multi-pronged organization that has evolved over the decades to meet the social challenges of our modern-day families. We have designed new programs well beyond the known Big Brothers Big Sisters programs. Many of our mentoring programs today are school-based to help our kids with their marks, with peer pressure and with staying in school. We receive NO sustainable government funding. We must raise 80-85% of our total budget to maintain and grow our quality mentoring programs. Our operations are sustained by the businesses, families and individuals of St.Catharines, Thorold and Niagara-on-the-Lake. We provide our services and programs FREE to the community. We do not charge any fees to recruit, screen, monitor, and support the over 600 volunteers, and the more than 1,300 you, children and their families that we interact with every year. |
